FYSL is proud to announce the hiring of Bri O’Dowd - Girl's Director
Fremont Youth Soccer Leagues is proud to announce the hiring of Bri O’Dowd. After talking with the current coaching staff and board, we realized there was a need for a Girl’s Director. Bri will also be a resource for our recreation girl’s coaches. Over the last few months we have met with Bri on several occasions about the possibility of joining FYSL. Bri will begin July 1st 2009.
Bri O’Dowd enters her second season as Director of Soccer Operations for the Santa Clara women’s program. In addition to supporting the game day operations, O’Dowd also serves as camp director. Prior to joining the Broncos in 2007, O’Dowd works as a youth club coach and trainer for 24-7 UK Soccer Academy. A 2001 graduate of Long Beach State with a bachelor’s degree in criminal psychology. She also has the NSCAA National, Advance National and Premier Diploma’s. She is currently working towards her UEFA “B” license in Scotland. Before attending Long Beach State, O’Dowd played goalkeeper collegiately for Cal State Dominguez Hills where she was a member of the 1991 NCAA National championship team. While living in Hawaii, O’Dowd was coach for the Hawaii State Olympic Development Program as well as a staff coach with the Honolulu Bulls Soccer Club where she led her girls and boys under-12 squads to National Open Cup Hawaii State Championships in 2002 and 2003. O’Dowd has just completed her fourth year serving as a staff coach for the Region IV Olympic development program. A veteran of the United States Army, O’Dowd currently resides in Alameda, Calif. Bri will combine her duties with her position at Santa Clara.
Ricky Clarke will now work alongside Bri as well as oversee the boys side and work with our coaches on coach education.
Please welcome Bri to our club.
Fields Status
Sar 6/13/2009 AM
Few showers today but nothing that will saturate the fields Fields are open to play.
Hopkins Jr. High - OPENED
Horner Jr. High - OPENED
Irvington High School - OPENED
Central Park, soccer fields are CLOSED
Celtic OPEN
All schools OPEN for practices.
Best bet for practices will be some of the city parks which have longer grass.
Also think about wearing tennis shoes and practicing on the black top surfaces. Small sided games on a hard surface are great for skills development.
Check this site for updates.
Here are some guidelines for FC Fremont teams on rain days:
- For the U10 and older games, the referee is the only person who can cancel the game due to safety reasons.
- Games at ICP are NEVER cancelled due to weather unless there becomes a safety issue.
- In general, there will be no make up games scheduled.
- For grass fields - unless it has been raining for 24 hours continuously or there is 8 hours of really heavy rain the fields should be OK for play.
- Check this website 1 hour before game time for the latest field status.
This site is updated as needed and should be checked several hours before game time if there is some doubt about the weather,
There is no city phone line for the status of the Central Park soccer fields. There is a number for the status of the softball fields but just because they are closed does not mean the soccer fields are closed.
Fremont Youth Soccer host the EPL Portsmouth Academy Director - Paul Smalley
Fremont Youth Soccer was pleased to provide our coaches and players with an invaluable learning experience. Theory and practical educational sessions for coaches were provided over the weekend. An insight into the philosophies and practices were shared amongst coaches who assist Fremont Youth Soccer in both their recreation and competitive programs. Executive Director, Andrew Donnery believes that a consistent in-service development program for coaches is one of the initiatives he would like to introduce. The coaches can only benefit from an increased awareness of best practice in youth programs in Europe. Paul shares the strategies Fremont Youth Soccer have newly implemented, one of these is the need to work technically with the younger players from U4-U12. The joint belief by taking advantage of these golden ages of learning with effective and efficient coaching practice will eventually lead to a more successful program. Paul recognized that several of the players that attended the younger age session that came through the U8 Academy would not be out of place at the Portsmouth Academy. Paul has asked the coaching staff to keep him updated on their progress.
